Belly Piercing
Jan 15th 2012, 13:48

Belly piercing is done near the navel. Since it involves piercing a flat area of the skin, it is considered a surface type of piercing. The standard belly piercing is usually done by inserting a barbell which is curved the skin immediately underneath the navel. People can then wear ornaments on the barbell and permit it to dangle over the navel. Belly piercing has become very popular recently. Here is some basic belly piercing information. The Belly Piercing Procedure A belly piercing is very easy to perform and doesn’t have many complications. In addition, this type of piercing heals more comfortably than other types of body piercings. You can do the piercing yourself or have it done by a professional. The professional will follow a standard technique with little modification. You can follow this standard procedure in the comfort of your home to get your navel pierced. Belly piercing begins with a cleanup up of the area. Typically, a surgical scrub is used to clean the skin surrounding the navel and the navel itself. After the area has been thoroughly cleaned, use a surgical pen and ink to mark two locations. These locations can be on either side, below, or above the navel. The two locations should mark the exact location where you want the piercing. Next, hold the skin that is covering the marked points tight with a clamp. Then pull the skin that is clamped somewhat away from the body. This step needs to be done carefully because any slippage of the skin will disturb the location of the piercing. Using a needle that has been sterilized align it at a right angle with the clamped skin and push the needle through the skin. You will feel some pain but be courageous and put the jewelry into the pierced skin immediately. Wipe any the blood off with a cotton ball if it is bleeding. Apply some type of lotion that is antiseptic to prevent the infection in the piercing. Belly Piercing Aftercare The piercing may produce a discharge which is off white or white in color and sticky. The discharge may dry up and crust over the piercing and on the jewelry. This problem of discharge is very routine and usually there in the beginning. In order to prevent the condition from becoming more serious, you should take proper care of the navel piercing from the beginning. However, this type of piercing is extremely safe and infections are rare.

Cosmetic Dentistry – What You Need to Know
Jan 15th 2012, 17:14

Cosmetic dentistry is a field of dentistry which aims to improve the overall appearance of the face by making corrections to the teeth. Cosmetic dentistry is not a distinct branch of dentistry. Rather, it is a combination of various techniques with the sole motive of improving the appearance. Cosmetic dental procedures are somewhat costly when compared to normal dental procedures. It also takes a lot of training and expertise to become a cosmetic dentist. Cosmetic dentistry differs from normal dentistry in a number of ways. General dentistry places more emphasis on restoring the functionality of teeth that have been damaged by various diseases and conditions. On the other hand, cosmetic dentistry is mainly about the aesthetic appearance. However, it should be noted that the domains of normal dentistry and cosmetic dentistry overlap in a number of places. There are a number of procedures available today that can improve the appearance of the person. Some of the common dental procedures include teeth whitening, shaping, false teeth, dental veneers and dental implants. In some cases, cosmetic dental procedures may be used in combination with other cosmetic procedures that are aimed at improving the appearance of other parts of the face. Not all cosmetic dental procedures are costly. For example, teeth whitening is easily affordable for everyone. However, it is not a specialized procedure and doesn’t require a lot of skill on the part of the dentist. It is also performed at most dental clinics. It can also be performed at home by using teeth whitening kits that are readily available in the market today. Cosmetic dentistry is very costly in advanced countries. There are a number of reasons why cosmetic dental procedures are costly. First and foremost, it takes years of training to become specialized as a cosmetic dental surgeon. Cosmetic surgeons acquire their skills over a long period of time by working at various clinics as interns. For this reason, they charge exuberant fees. Additionally, the materials involved in the surgery are also very costly. Diagnostic and screening equipment can also be very costly to operate. All of these overhead costs add up and make cosmetic dental procedures very costly.

Culture Shock in China: Top Five
Jan 15th 2012, 18:19

If you have spoken to anyone who has moved to a country that is quite different from their own, you might have heard the phrase ‘culture shock’ before. This shock is to do with the differences in culture and environment you might experience, and the initial difficulties of adjusting to these differences. China can be a prime destination for culture shock when you first arrive, particularly if you don’t know what to expect. To lessen these problems by preparing you beforehand, here are our top five cultural issues that might lead to culture shock.. 1. Spitting. Whilst many major cities in China have banned public spitting, it is still common – particularly in northern cities such as Beijing where pollution is rife. Rather than using a tissue, many people clear their throat by spitting onto the ground. It is an unhygienic practice, and it is worth watching where you step sometimes. However, after a while you probably won’t even notice. 2. Staring. There are still a small amount of foreigners in China, and if you are outside of a big city you can find yourself the centre of attention. Most people are not trying to be rude at all – they are just curious. Try not to let it get to you, and if you live in an area for a while people will certainly get used to you. Of course, such staring is rare in the big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai where people are used to seeing non-Chinese people. 3. Squat toilets. Your comfortable accommodation and most large shopping malls or restaurants will have toilets that you recognise as typically western. However, many public toilets and Chinese restaurants have squat toilets. These are flat to the ground, and you need to squat to use them – hence the name. If you have leg problems they can be difficult to use, but most people can use them after the initial difficulties. However, if you live in a big city and don’t want to use these toilets, a western toilet should not be too far away. 4. Food. Some elements of Chinese food will be very familiar, but as a developing nation there are still many dishes that reflect the idea of eating from necessity, as well as a variety of foods and attitudes to food that many westerners are not familiar with. Expect many meat dishes to include bones, and some menus to include dishes using offal, amphibians, reptiles or even insects. Supermarkets often have live fish, crabs and turtles to buy for food. Whilst these might be shocking, it is a normal practice here and ensures freshness. Whilst you will not get used to everything, if you give different foods a try and learn, you can discover great new dishes. For the picky eater, there are plenty of simple dishes and even recognisable fast food brands in many cities. 5. Medicine. Most Chinese pharmacies stock western medicine, but the first thing you will be offered is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). You are welcome to give this a try and for basic problems it can potentially help. However, if you want to play it safe then ask for western Medicine – it will often work out to be cheaper for basic things like painkillers or cold medicine, and you know exactly what you are taking. The culture can be shocking, but it is difference that makes life exciting. Global Language will be there for you to help you understand cultural differences, and to help you adapt quickly once you are in China.

What is the Difference Between Laser Dentistry and Drill Dentistry
Jan 15th 2012, 18:04

Decayed tooth enamel and gums are common problems among children and older people. Traditional dentistry used enamel scissors, drills, rotary tools and cleaning brushes to treat these problems. There are two types of devices that are currently used in dentistry to remove decay from teeth, one is the Dental Drill and the other is the Dental Laser. Dental drill or drill dentistry is the most common and traditional technology. This device uses hard metal alloy bits. These metal bits are available in various shapes and sizes as a useful attachment for different applications. Most of them are made with steel within tungsten carbide coating. Earlier dentist drills were slow in speed – around 3000 rpm – but today’s drills are much more advanced and can rotate at 800,000 rpm. But these drills can give you chills and cold sweats as they make physical contact with your teeth. This technique is not very comfortable but it’s also not too costly. The dental drill is still an essential part of every dentist’s equipment. Some high-speed dental drills may cause a smudge layer, which is a layer of dead organic material. The latest technology used in dentistry is the ‘Laser’. A Laser is a device that emits energy in the form of amplified light. This amplified light is used to cut tissue and teeth. This light is transmitted at different wavelengths for different targets including enamel, gum tissue, decayed teeth, and whitening enhancement. Laser dentistry is an FDA (Food and Drug Association) approved technology and it has also received ADA (American Dentist Association) seal of acceptance, which assures the safety of this technology. Most dentists use lasers only for tooth decay, gum problems, and lesion removal. Lasers can also be used to detect cavities. NASA Langley research center has stated that two major wavelengths for dentists can be produced using the same hardware resulting reduced cost and complexity. Waterlase laser is the first laser approved by FDA for cutting hard tissue. The major advantage of a dental laser compared to a dentist drill is that it causes no vibration and no pain. It does not require any anesthesia. It can target a specific portion without disturbing the surrounding area. Bleaching and swelling are also reduced and the patient feels comfortable and at ease. Currently lasers are used for recon-touring or re-shaping gums. Dental lasers are quite safe and are an effective procedure for treating dentistry in children and adults. No doubt, laser dentistry offers numerous important improvements over the dentist drill and also eliminates the common complaints of traditional dentistry. But laser dentistry has some disadvantages. For example, laser dentistry may not be used for teeth where previous filling has been done. It also cannot be used to fill cavities located between teeth, or shape or polish the filling. Laser is also not suited for large cavities that need to be prepared for a crown. Even though laser dentistry has some limitations it is by far the best dentistry for a patient’s comfort. As per a patient’s condition and requirements, your dentist can help you choose which is best for you.
